A Milestone for BioGovernance Commons
Thrilled to share that our BioGovernance Commons initiative — a bottom-up science diplomacy experiment we started in 2021 in response to escalating geopolitical tensions surrounding the life sciences — has finally become a book! It’s been quite a journey, with plenty of unexpected hurdles along the way! I’m particularly pleased that the book has found a fitting intellectual home in Springer Nature’s Emerging Globalities and Civilizational Perspectives series.
We have two book launches coming up:
- 19 November | Canterbury (hybrid): Commoning in an Age of ‘Perpetual Crisis’ (registration is open) — a nod to Kant’s vision of ‘perpetual peace’, featuring co-founders and contributors from the US, Italy and China.
- 14 December | Chengdu (in person): ‘From BioGovernance Commons to AI Governance Commons’ — bringing together a larger group of contributors at the University of Macau–UESTC International Symposium on AI Ethics and Law.
My sincere thanks to our editors at Springer Nature, Shinjini Chatterjee and Ino Rossi, for their patience, understanding and unwavering support throughout the nearly three-year journey of making this book. And a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to our conversations since 2021, especially our colleagues based in China, for your generosity, support and, at times, rather remarkable faith in us and in one another!
